There must be a reason 100% of Lycoming airframe OEM

starters spin up to twice as fast as stock OEM starters.
No, there is no such thing as "too fast" as
stated by some starter manufacturers. Impulse
couplers disengage typically in the 400 RPM range.
The fastest we have ever clocked a Sky-Tec starter turning
an engine was an NL starter on 24V at 210 RPM.
That's a long way from impulse coupler kick out. And
besides, if we could turn an engine fast enough to over
run the impulse couplers...why would you need impulse
couplers in the first place?

fit in places some heavyweight starters can't (newer
airframes, sleek experimentals, etc.). Other
manufacturers' starters have limited fitting applications.
