SOLENOIDS:
WHAT'S THE POINT?
Here's the deal with solenoids:
Back in the day, there were mechanical solenoids -
in industry, automotive, marine, and of course our
adored aviation industry.
And while most industries stayed with the times and
transitioned to solid state relays, our beloved
aircraft remained stuck in time, as they are so often,
certified with mechanical solenoids that were once on
the aircraft type certificates and never to
change. But let's admit, when
they were good, mechanical solenoids were, well,
GOOD. The problem wasn't the solenoid, the
problem became the disappearance of reliable sources
of suitable mechanical solenoids. Aircraft
manufacturers scrambled finding solenoids overseas
(cheap but unreliable) or buying up all new old stock
they could get their hands on (making the products
very expensive). But who would be foolish enough
to invest the huge sums of time, effort and expense
tooling up for a product design that hasn't changed in
50+ years. Sky-Tec! That's who! And
so Sky-Tec is extremely proud to offer its customers
REAL aviation solenoids once again. Sky-Tec
solenoids are built out of the same "good
stuff" that the original OE starters were built
with in the good old days. Okay, sure, we took
the opportunity to make a few slight improvements
(continuous current load capacity and silver
tungsten-carbide terminals) but by and large, the goal was simply to
get back to the good stuff: mechanical solenoids
that fit like the OE solenoids fit, had the same
number and same size of terminals as the OE solenoids
and put those terminals in the same location making
replacing your aircraft solenoid simple and
easy. And of course, Sky-Tec
found a way to make it cost as little as
possible. The investment wasn't cheap, but we
seriously think with your help we can sell enough of
these to keep the prices well south of one
"airplane bill." So please, by all
