Sky-Tec NL starters feature Sky-Tec's exclusive KPS® (internal Kickback Protection System) that
utilizes a shear pin to minimize starter and ring gear damage
in the event of a premature ignition misfire event (kickback).
Owners and technicians of NL starters that exhibit the
following characteristic should consider following the NL
Shear Pin Resetting instructions located below and
demonstrated in the animation above:
Problem Description:
When energized, the starter pinion engages the
flywheel and the starter motor spins (or at least SOUNDS
like it is spinning) but the starter's pinion gear does not
rotate.
Solution:
DO NOT RETURN THE STARTER TO SKY-TEC. Repair the
starter per the following instructions.
